This is the time when the smartphone (the phone with browsing capacity) is getting into the hand of millions of people around the world. Science and Technology have made it possible and market forces have empowered the reach. It has been about to factors-

1. Utility Value or Need and 2. Affordability of the Consumers. On both the grounds, Mobile has won significantly. It has been like any other revolutionary invention that has transformed lifestyle, not life though. As usual, we have been failing to make rational use of the tools given to us and fall short of effective use of Mobile Technology as well.

The context of this introduction is the observation that we seldom think of making the best possible use of the features available on our phone. Now there are two types of mobile phone users, first are the ones who are technically challenged are somehow proud of that. The other category is of those who 'appear' to be well versed with the devil in hand but are exposed as immature users when it comes to real utility. How many of us know the telephonic communication etiquette? Yes most of us do know! However, we do not practice them in life, with our own gadget.

Apart from the skills of Making a Call, Receiving a Call, Taking Call for Someone Else, Putting the Call on Hold and 'Giving A Missed Call', there is an urgent need to talk about the Usage of SMS. This post is motivated by the desire to use SMS- Short Message Service- given on the mobile phone. Though it costs- but it has some worth-unique importance in comparison to the Messaging using Apps like WhatsApp or Facebook Messenger or Skype etc. Pagers were there in old times of where the text got its electronic life. Apart from being SIMPLE- SHORT-SMART, there are other factors that make SMS an important part of Mobile Phone Communication Skills:

  • An alternative to Internet/Offline Communication: We all have access to Smartphones, but having internet connectivity (Data Packs or Wi-Fi) is not permanent. A user may not be having the Internet-enabled and the same can be the case with the intended receiver as well. For example, we have sent a message through WhatsApp and we wait for the two tick marks to indicate the reception and later the reading of the message. However, there is no force with us that can make the phone receive the message without internet facility. SMS let us send the information and the only thing required is telecom network in the phone of the receiver. It also brings a delivery report and is considered more 'urgent' than the Internet-Based Messaging.
