Parts of Speech - the categories of words we use to 'Speak' - are integral to learning a language. It is right to say that every speaker of a language must know what these parts are. While we have been teaching one language after another, this learning has been the pain area. Students tend to forget the definitions and they are not at fault. Right at the beginning, we went wrong in treating English or Hindi as a subject; it is a LANGUAGE!
In India, we have to follow the Grammar-translation Method of English language teaching (ELT). Experts do have precise explanations about the gap in learning grammar but what I have felt is the fact to acknowledge every language equal. If one knows a language well, another language is easy in learning. if the knowledge and understanding about one language are half-baked, there are fewer chances to master the new one. As language comes from practice and participation, here is a small attempt to bring English to the native speakers of Hindi. The lesson, this story is in HINDI and presents the parts of Speech as characters to be known - to be made friends with!
आज हम लाएँ हैं एक नटखट-मस्ती भरी कहानी, कविता के रूप में, जिसमें हैं दोनों भाषाओं की व्याकरण और सबसे ज़रूरी विषय – शब्द भेद – Parts of Speech. खेल-खेल में पार्ट्स ऑफ स्पीच सीखने का अनूठा प्रयोग प्रस्तुत है।
बचपन में जब हम बच्चों को हिन्दी व्याकरण से परिचित करवाते हैं, तब तक उन्हें हिन्दी भाषा का बोलने-समझने का ज्ञान हो चुका होता है। जब वे इंग्लिश सीखना शुरू करते हैं तो वहाँ grammar एक मुश्किल विषय बनकर सारी उम्र साथ ही रहता है। हिन्दी और इंग्लिश, दोनों ही भाषाएँ हैं तथा दोनों में एक सीधी समानता है - वो है व्याकरण की। छोटे बच्चे सीखते हुए उलझन में फंस जाते हैं – हिन्दी व्याकरण सीखें या English Grammar. दोनों में भेद बस समझने का है कि एक भाषा सही से सीखिए तो दूसरी भी आ जाएगी। भारत में इंग्लिश को मातृभाषा से जोड़ कर सिखाया जाये तो परिणाम बेहतर हो सकते हैं।
कहानियाँ बड़ी मज़ेदार होती हैं और जब हम कहानियों से सीखते हैं तो वो पूरी ज़िंदगी, ता उम्र, पूरे जीवन हमारे साथ रहता है। बचपन में जो कहानियाँ हम सुनते हैं, बड़े होने पर तो और ज़्यादा अच्छे से याद हो जाती हैं, और कई बार तो उनका ज़िक्र हम औरों से करने लगते हैं।
ऐसी ही एक कहानी आज हम सुनेंगे, मगर उसमें कुछ अनूठा है – कुछ अच्छा भी है- कुछ नया भी है। ये कहानी है शब्दों की, words – इंग्लिश में बोलते हैं न – words – शब्द। कोई भी भाषा, कोई भी language आप सब बोलते हैं – तो उसमें words तो use होते हैं न भई! इन्हीं words के अलग-अलग नाम हैं। सुने हैं आपने – हमें पता है। मगर आज याद रखने के लिए इनको सीखेंगे।
तो सुनो बच्चो कहानी – मेरी ज़बानी!
नौं बच्चे – नटखट न्यारे
कभी हो लगते भारी-
कभी लगते प्यारे!!!!
अब सब जानते हैं इनको – तो उनका जीवन होगा आसान
क्योंकि उनको शब्द भेद का है ज्ञान
तो
वो अब नहीं होंगे परेशान!!!
