Phonetics is not a thing that sounds alien now. From the foundation classes at the school levels, we have Pronunciation exercises in the syllabus.

There has been a lot of debate over Accent and Spellings in English. We have not been able to defend British English,

that has been the Received Pronunciation (RP) for us. The attraction or exposure to the US Accent has done less to ease and more to confuse the speakers of English. It has not been acknowledged as a good language because of the complexities of spellings and pronunciation.
