Moodle, the teacher's LMS has been the leading solution to the requirements of an LCMS - Learning & Content Management System. Hosting is a crucial part of having a Moodle Site. We have been using Moodlecloud.com and Gnomio.com 's Free Hosting Services as purchasing and installation of Moodle software on our own servers is not a thing, we all can do and spend for. Still, free hosting by them had some limitations.

Earlier, Moodle was easily available through Gnomio and Moodle Cloud. It is not to say that 'Moodle' is not there now; the difference is that there has been a decrease in the amount of facility we had in Free Hosting. Moodle is open-source software, a well-designed and constantly updated bundle of various tools and resources that we can use to teach and learn. It comes with only two requirements:

  1. You need to have the technical expertise to Host the Moodle software on your servers if going for a comprehensive self-hosted & self-owned Moodle Site
  2. Teachers and Students (All Contributors) must keep the LCMS active with constant use. 

This can be called an LCMS, rather than an LMS because it serves us that way. We can host our content in ready-made modules and models. We can upload files, make pages, add URLs, Quizzes, folders, labels and Audio-Video contents. We can also do the Content and Learning Management through Assessments, Attendance and more. It is important to note that the sites made on the 3.5 version of Moodle on Gnomio shall continue to have gnomio support till May 2021. You better take a backup of your courses from it and make a new site for use.

However, the gnomio based Moodle (Moodle installed on Gnomio Servers) comes with limitations now. They have two models on offer. One is FREE and that is the one which used to be quite good when it was on 3.5 version. As they have updated it to 3.9 now and there are some good interface features, there is a new offering in the name of PAID Hosting. If you buy that, you get to use the whole Moodle package with all tools and plugins. The same that you will get if you install it on a self-purchases hosting domain/server. The two things you will need are:

  1. A Domain Name and Hosting Space Purchased
  2. Technical Help to Install the Moodle on your site

Until you buy your own, Gnomio is there with a few limitations. These limitations shall sound big to those who have worked on the Moodle 3.5 version hosted by Gnomio till last month. BUT, going by the business model, both have started selling hosting now. Gnomio has limited the plugins we used to have in the earlier account on its platform.
